Daemon’s AI team discuss new, practical applications of AI

AI is both a toolset and a future technology, and it’s becoming ubiquitous. At Daemon, we’re noticing high demand from clients looking for guidance on how to use and set up AI.

AI adoption has many strategic advantages: it can drive rapid business growth, increases market share and improves overall competitiveness. Yet recent data suggests only 15% of UK SMEs have adopted one or more AI technology, compared to 68% of large businesses. With a steady stream of new tools appearing, we thought it’d be a good time to chat with three of Daemon's AI specialists. We discuss the challenges in the current AI landscape, whether ‘control’ or ‘opportunity’ is a better mindset, and why practical applications of AI can accelerate all sorts of businesses.

What are the most common AI challenges you’re seeing?

“The tools are rapidly evolving, bringing future technology and change constantly into the now. Although AI adoption varies, we’re seeing an urgency to adopt across most sectors. Our role at Daemon is to stay ahead, keep clear about the real value of AI tools, and help our customers to do the same.”

Damien Duff, Principal AI Consultant - Connect on LinkedIn

“We see new products arising every day, which could easily be overwhelming for small businesses. There’s an almost unknowable extent of frameworks available. In this sense, Daemon’s seniority in this new developing technology sets us apart. We’re familiar with the unfamiliarity.”

Umar Hussain, Senior Consultant - Connect on LinkedIn

Right now, Daemon is well aware of how clients feel in the face of so many AI tools and solutions. If the market is flooded with new products, it’s impossible to stay on top of all the latest developments.

When it comes to implementing AI, it’s best to find opportunities for growth and not to get bogged down in a sea of buzzwords and promises. Instead, focus on what matters to you and select the right tools and design the right approach. Daemon can help with this.

How has the Government’s announcement to boost AI in the UK changed things?

Since the announcement that ‘AI will deliver a decade of national renewal’ earlier this year, there’s a palpable sense of urgency across the board. Companies don’t want to get left behind. Others might be fearful about data security. This uncertainty about whether, or how to act is holding companies back from investing early.

“It’s understandable that some of us follow trends and changes, whereas others might get preoccupied with implementation. AI can have a massive impact on business efficiency, so companies should be on the lookout for opportunities.”

Gonzalo Fernandez, Senior Consultant - Connect on LinkedIn

“As long as you take things like data protection seriously, don’t worry about failure. Trying new things has never been cheaper. Now’s the time to experiment with the possibilities of AI.”

At Daemon, we’ve recently been involved in some interesting practical applications of AI in finance, technology and biotech. We’re also currently part of a public consultation on an AI Management Essentials tool, alongside the Department for Innovation in Science and Technology (DIST).

Let’s take a look at how smart use of AI can make a big difference in lots of different contexts.

Recent AI use cases: At-home testing and intelligent document processing

  • AI-Driven biotech innovation

Daemon has recently been involved in an exciting practical application of AI. We partnered with Tachmed to bring at-home testing to life.

Daemon teamed up with Tachmed to identify important chances for automation and AI integration. Their team now has AI-powered tools to distil clinical use cases and antibody candidates from scientific literature, to power them along in their mission of providing game-changing healthcare solutions.

  • Retail virtual assistant

We recently created an AI-powered in-store assistant. Although this product is a demonstration, for now, it has huge potential. AI shopping assistants can check availability, make recommendations, find complementary products and help upsell. This helped enormously with the customer experience, saving them time and keeping their satisfaction high. We’re excited to develop this product more, as retailers increasingly embrace AI.

  • Intelligent document processing

We worked with a client that worked very hard to extract insights for its customers from vast quantities of their data. A large amount of the data provided by their non-tech savvy clients was unstructured or varied in how it was presented or categorised.

Daemon worked to create AI-powered intelligent document processing, allowing the client to ingest and organise a diverse range of data with minimal setup. As a result, the client's customers could glean valuable insights from data that previously went unnoticed and without a lot of wasted time on back-and-forward with our client's data analysts.

  • Knowledge extraction and distillation

We helped a customer in the financial services industry extract structured, actionable data from financial fraud case studies. This empowered the client to spot patterns in financial fraud and help their customers to do the same. It also saved our clients valuable time, freeing them up to work on projects that had a greater impact.

The pervasiveness and impact of AI in 2025

We’re seeing a strong demand not just for smart, data-driven applications of AI, but also for empathetic chatbots and personalization in 2025. As a result, Daemon has started providing chat and support solutions. In parallel, Daemon is providing AI hosting and training services for our advanced clients’ custom models. Although we understand that not every business will be touched by AI yet, as the technology, in many ways, is still in its infancy, we’re still aware of its impact all around us.

“Not every business will adopt AI yet, but any business that handles data, or has a public-facing support option could make good use of new technologies. Although AI is still as-yet a huge unknown, businesses can take advantage and disrupt industries, if they’re willing to try.”

Gonzalo Fernandez

Over the next year, we expect to see significant disruption to knowledge-based and process-based work. As the technology continues to grow, we’re here to help.
