Daemon’s Day of Giving: why we support Lusemanzi, Early Childhood Centre in Gauteng, South Africa

At Daemon, we want to focus on making a sustainable, long-term impact with our charity partners. Every year, our Daemon Day of Giving is all about doing just that. This initiative fits right in with our culture of social responsibility, making a difference, and getting Daemonites involved in fundraising.

For quite a few years now, we’ve teamed up with Breadline Africa to support various charitable initiatives and this year, we decided to work with the Lusemanzi Early Childhood Development Centre. Our charity team came together to raise funds through a series of events, visit the centre, and help bring about some positive change. Let’s find out more.

Why we chose to work with Lusemanzi

ddog3Lusemanzi is a one-of-a-kind early childhood centre in Gauteng, South Africa, focusing on helping children aged 2-6 get ready for education. It’s run by an inspiring Principal Lorato Duma who leads the facility, manages teaching and ensures the students get healthy meals on site.

The Principal is such a passionate educator that she also helps her staff gain early years teaching qualifications. Daemon was excited to work with such a fantastic initiative; we’re all about helping the wider community and giving back whenever we can.

Celebrating our Daemon Day of Giving

Organised by a collective, our charity team works to create, plan and organise the Daemon charitable activities each year. This centres around our Day of Giving, bringing together all our efforts to support our chosen cause. We take this extremely seriously, because giving back is such an important part of our  Impact North Star ambition.

We spoke to Wian Snyman, Senior AI & ML Consultant, who was part of the charity initiative:

“Taking part in the Daemon Day of Giving means a lot to me. I truly value building long-term partnerships with causes like Lusemanzi. It feels great to give back through strong connections with our partner organizations. Seeing the impact on early childhood was really humbling, and I was proud to be a part of it.”

Visiting Lusemanzi as a team was an incredible experience. We were met with a warm welcome from the Principal and staff, and were given a tour of the facilities. While the team were there, we heard over 100 of the Lusemanzi children sing the national anthem, and got to deliver vital supplies, including a new printer, medical supply restock and series of outdoor play equipment. Everyone left feeling humbled, proud and keen to continue supporting such a wonderful cause.

How we’re continuing the good work

ddog6Each year we take our annual charity drive seriously, it’s a big part of our North Star goal to make a societal impact. And this ensures we live up to our ambition, by choosing to work with causes in areas that need support.

We’ve got plans for 2025, by continuing our relationship with Lusemanzi in a two-year cycle. We’ll be focusing on important building and garden work, alongside possible development of the existing library.

Wian says more about this,

“Daemon cares about long-term relationships with our chosen causes. For us, the partnership with Lusemanzi is one we’d love to continue, and it’s likely that we will support them again in the future.”

Charities like Lusemanzi are vitally important, and we’re so proud to have been able to help.  It’s just one of the many causes supported by Breadline Africa. If you’re keen to get involved, you can find out more about their work here.
