Daemon strengthens board structure, promoting ex-Sainsbury’s CTO Richard Newsome as Non-Executive Chairman

Digital transformation consultancy Daemon promotes Richard Newsome to accelerate business growth and sector expansion.

15 April, 2025 – London – Today digital transformation consultancy Daemon announces the strengthening of its board, promoting Richard Newsome as Non-Executive Chairman. Working closely with Non-Executive director Judith Batchelar and Board Advisor Heath Jackson, as well as Co-Founders Steve Bennett and Calum Fitzgerald, Richard will continue to support Daemon’s business growth and work in the retail sector, while expanding its footprint into financial services and the public sector.

Richard first worked with Daemon during his time at Sainsbury’s, where he experienced first-hand the consultancy’s ability to deliver technical expertise and solve complex business challenges. Over the past four years, he has continued to work with Daemon, bringing valuable insight into the voice of the customer and helping shape the delivery of high-impact work for clients.

Previously serving as CTO of Sainsbury's and Cancer Research, Richard brings a wealth of experience in digital transformation, governance, and scaling complex organisations.

Steve Bennett and Calum Fitzgerald, Co-founders, Daemon comments;

 “Having someone who was a client join us to chair the board is incredibly valuable for our business. Richard understands what we do, what our competitors do, and, most importantly, why our approach works. His role will be key as we set out our new ambitions and push forward with our next phase of growth where we retain the agility and expertise that have made us a leader in digital transformation."

Richard Newsome, Non-Executive Chairman, Daemon comments;

 “I feel a deep sense of connection with Daemon, from the leadership team to the mission and the work. I have always admired their technical excellence and ability to apply it to complex business challenges. This isn’t just another role for me; it’s an opportunity to work with people I respect and to contribute to something I truly believe in. Daemon’s ability to deliver, time and again, is what drew me in initially, and I’m excited to be part of shaping its future."

Seventeen years of technical excellence

Founded in 2007, Daemon set out with a mission to make the world a better place by creating movements that power digital transformation. Operating in the UK and South Africa, Daemon has developed a unique ability to combine deep technical expertise with a strong understanding of how organisations operate.

With an approach grounded in trust and delivery, Daemon partners with clients to implement cutting-edge technology and embed meaningful change within organisations. This combination of technical expertise and organisational understanding allows Daemon to address the most complex business challenges, making it the go-to partner for companies seeking transformation beyond surface-level technology adoption.

As Daemon continues its expansion, particularly into financial services and the public sector, it will apply its methodologies to industries looking to enhance customer-centric operations. Banks and financial institutions, in particular, are increasingly looking to the retail industry for inspiration in creating seamless digital experiences. Daemon is well-positioned to support this shift, applying the notion that digital transformation should do more than modernise systems; it should move people, organisations, and industries forward.
